1. The spotting rifle is mounted on the right side of the launch tube. 2. The weapon is then in spotting rifle mode. 3. In some cases spotting rifles were used to confirm proper trajectory and range to a target. 4. The spotting rifles were used to line up the 106 mm recoilless rifles with the target. 5. The firing mechanism mechanically fires the spotting rifle and uses a magneto to fire the rocket. 6. The weapon consists of the launch tube, the spotting rifle , the firing mechanism and mounting brackets. 7. A US Ontos M50A1 Tank Destroyer, the 50-cal spotting rifles can be seen on the upper guns 8. The system can be used in conjunction with the AN / PEQ-4 aiming light in place of the spotting rifle . 9. The Ontos used six barrels with four spotting rifles ; two without, to avoid making an already tall vehicle even higher. 10. Many photographs of the Ontos in service in Vietnam show it with only two of the spotting rifles installed in their mounts.
